Independence Hall was constructed between 1732 and 1756 as the Pennsylvania State House and later became the primary site for the debates and adoption of both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. It served as the first capital of the United States before the government moved to Washington D.C. Today, it is a centerpiece of the Independence National Historical Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its critical role in American history
